Menopause refers to a stage in woman's life characterized by a permanent cessation of her menstrual activities. It implies that a woman stops having her monthly menstrual intervals for the rest of her life, right after she achieves the menopause. A regular healthy lady reaches the menopause between the ages of 40-50. Menopause marks the end of a woman's fertility & reproductive years. During the menopause, production of the estrogen hormone reduces drastically in a woman & her ovaries stop producing eggs.

Menopause is frequently cryptically referred to as "the change of life." But as lovely as this sounds, it does not tell anyone a lot about what menopause is and how it affects us. After all, you will find plenty of "changes to live" experienced by men & women of all ages that has nothing to do with menopause. Menopause is something each woman with all her reproductive organs ultimately experiences. Menopause is a normal part of the biological process. It isn't a disease or illness even though some menopause side effects could be unpleasant.

As often as a woman might complain about having to deal with a monthly menstrual cycle, that same woman is most definitely not looking forward to going through menopause. Just about every woman has a hard time going through menopause. In a lot of ways it can be compared to having a second puberty but in this case the woman is very aware of her menopause symptoms as well as the affect her symptoms have on the people who are in her life. Everyone needs to understand menopause symptoms because it helps them to be a better support system for the women they know who have to go through the change. Every woman has a different way of dealing with menopause. Some women will try to treat the effects of menopause medicinally. Others try to fight the effects herbally. Still other women want to deal with the menopause through changes in lifestyle. There are even women who try to pretend that menopause is not happening at all and do nothing to try to treat their symptoms.
